"some of my favorite work happens outside the concert hall"

Praised for his "innate sense of musical aesthetics in all styles" (Vociharmonie), Thomaz Tavares leads a vibrant career as a soloist, pedagogue, and chamber musician. He is co-founder of Ensemble IMAGO, in artistic residence at the Fondation des États-Unis, and has been flutist with the Orchestre de Chambre Nouvelle Europe since 2019, alongside regular appearances with Orchestre Hélios. He is a recipient of the Harriet Hale Woolley Fellowship, under which he conducted performance research on the Belle Époque flute repertoire and the flute music of composer Yuko Uebayashi, a collaboration that led to several invitations from the composer herself to perform and record her music in the south of France. His debut EP with Ruta Kuzmickas, featuring the music of Mozart, has been released in 2026. Recent highlights include a Vivaldi concerto tour in France, masterclass and recital tours across the US, and recitals at Salle Cortot and Petit Palais. As a pedagogue, he is co-founder of the Flûte Rêverie summer masterclass academy and serves on the faculty of California State University Fullerton as Interim Lecturer in Flute.
